Borderware Advanced System
Administration—3 days

This three day course is designed to prepare the student to perform the normal post-installation administrative functions required to keep the Borderware Firewall in operation. The course also includes administration of the Mail and Document Gateway servers along with various premium features.

This course presents hands-on configuration and management of these features for Borderware Administrators. This course does NOT address the material included in the Borderware Installation course. Familiarity with the concepts and operation of the basic networking systems will be assumed. The course will provide advanced networking and subnetting concepts.

The successful candidate for attendance has experience administering one or more networks in a production environment. Unix experience is not necessary. The class format makes heavy use of hands-on exercises combining both lecture and labs..

Candidate must provide his/her own
networked laptop.
THREE DAY AGENDA

IP fundamentals are examined with hands on examples of subnet architecture - pencil required.
SMTP mail fundamentals will cover client server relationships along with simple diagnosis strategies.
POP3 fundamentals will include account setup along with testing and management using low level commands.
DNS fundamentals is an indepth look at the Berkeley BIND protocols including cache strategies for managing your own zone file.
VPN Lab will take most of a day as students install IPSEC and V-ONE clients and configure the firewall for targeted systems. This is a guided lab that is very detail oriented. A heavy emphasis is place here because of the agressive demands of security protocols.
Risk analysis and attack methods is designed to put you in the hacker's twisted brain. We cover attacks including mail bombs, denial of service, Trojans and many more. We will discuss server exposures and how to protect them with the firewall.
Intrusion Protection will cover both the firewall capabilities as well as mail gateway recommendations.
Intrusion Detection will examine the needs to watch the internal network for offensive activity.
Mailgate Administration will cover the setup of machine administered e-mail policies.
Document Gateway covers customization of the tool along with security structures to protect data from mischief.

Borderware Installer Certification

The Borderware Servers offer considerable flexibility in configuration options. This course is designed to assist those who will be involved in planning and integrating Borderware Firewall, Mail Gateway and Document Gateway into multiple, complex networking environments. This course does NOT address architectural concepts, product features, or day-to-day administration covered in the System Administration class. Students must have this knowledge prior to attending.

The successful candidate for attendance has installed and administered one or more networked servers in a production environment, has a strong familiarity with administering routers, switches, DNS servers, and SMTP servers plus comfort with UNIX or NT system administration . Graphical user interface will be used during the class. More than half the class time is spent in hands-on exercises.

Candidate must provide his/her own networked laptop.
